A day in Provence with the Spring/Summer 2020 collection
With the concept behind the Vanessa Wu Spring/Summer 2020 collection being the perfect footwear for a rural getaway, it’s hard to imagine a better landscape than the Hameau des Baux to present the new designs.
Forget the headache of packing and the dreaded question: “What should I wear?” and, instead, let yourself be swept up in a dream of a day at this five-star establishment, and find out about the shoes that will accompany you all summer long. Light sneakers, golden flats or even woven heeled sandals, the hardest part is deciding between them!
A slow-walking morning
The Hameau des Baux is a concept hotel, which mixes tradition and contemporary decor, and offers us a timeless escape in pure Provençal tradition. We have a leisurely start to the day, making the most of the sunny terraces from each room in this nineteenth-century Provençal farmhouse, overlooking the surrounding countryside.
In this light, airy and intimate atmosphere, we slide our feet into a pair of mules with ergonomically designed soles. They may be as comfortable as slippers, but they don’t hold back on style: the multicolored straps will bring any look to life, effortlessly brightening your silhouette: the perfect combo for starting the day right.
A breakfast with stars - in more ways than one
After browsing the Acte Sud bookshop and admiring the various artworks exhibited here and there, wandering in our heeled sandals with little knots, which we love for their retro charm, we pause for breakfast in the Hameau’s Cantine, delighting in its offering of seasonal cuisine fresh from the market. We continue the feast in the evening at the Michelin starred restaurant, la Cicada. As a contrast to the exposed wood beams, reflected in the mirrored glass which bathes the room in sumptuous light, we’d go for a pair of Vanessa Wu sneakers with a stylized sole and leopard details, the secret ingredient for a fresh recipe that will brighten up your outfit.
A walk in the Provençal landscape
Nestled in the heart of the Baux-de-Provence, the Hameau is an idyllic location, with unspoiled nature on its doorstep. Surrounded by over five hectares of olive trees, we wander happily through the groves, stopping for a well-earned rest in the shadow of the trees. When it comes to your feet, comfort is key. We love wearing sandals with a rope sole, and the slight platform subtly slims the leg, while retaining the casual look of flats. The ankle is delicately enveloped in a buckled strap, ensuring your foot has optimal support even with this killer style.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, throw on a pair of dad sneakers that still exude femininity with their mesh sections. Now that your feet are comfortable and supported, you can jump into a vintage convertible provided by the owners, and race off to discover the surrounding roads and the rocky landscapes of the Alpille mountains.
A golden evening
As evening arrives, we find ourselves in a typical Provençal village square, restored in the heart of the hotel’s estate. With its fountain and its plane trees, it’s the perfect spot to try out our most beautiful sandals for the first time, with a game of pétanque in a moment of relaxed sophistication. Whether in heeled mules, peep-toe pumps or Mary Jane slingbacks, our feet are taken care of; all that’s left to do is give in to the sweet innocence of balmy summer nights.
