How to wear jogging in style?
The sportswear trend has been our darling for several seasons now. Without even mentioning the dad sneaker’s triumphant return, designs that we thought we’d left in our school gym lockers for good have been revived by street style influencers and fashion editorials. Pieces that were just for sport or consigned to the past are getting a second chance, broadening our styling horizons and subverting our expectations. Who could forget Hailey Baldwin wearing a sweatshirt and cycling shorts for Paris Vogue in a relaxed look that was so chic and so sexy!
Breaking free from their streetwear straitjacket, sweatpants are no longer just for the gym or cozy Sundays on the couch; miraculously, they’ve become a true contemporary must-have. Lending themselves to as many styling possibilities as there are sporting activities, sweatpants can be worn with a wide or straight leg, with or without snap buttons, in satin or cotton, monochrome or with stripes... We get it! There are endless options, so you’ll have no problem choosing one that fits your aesthetic.
They may have been featured in catwalk shows by Chloé, Balenciaga and even Emilio Pucci, but it can’t be easy to style them in an elevated way, can it? One thing’s for sure, you’ll be rewarded with comfort if you rise to the challenge.
The tracksuit is the new pants suit
Sweatpants are often worn with sweatshirts (or better yet a hoodie) to create the famous head-to-toe tracksuit. We prefer a lightly oversized top (comfort first!) in classic marled gray tones that sport their history with pride. One you’ve chosen a tracksuit, cast your expectations aside and wear it like any other suit hanging in your closet! If sweatpants really are the suit pant’s modern alter-ego, then why not flout convention and team them with a blazer and a pair of ranger boots for an edgy look inspired by Rihanna. The same ensemble goes just as well with a trench coat and Vanessa Wu mesh sneakers: we love combining dad shoes with graphic soles and silver details with the classic elegance of the trench coat for a sharp and timeless, modern look.
Goodbye mom jeans, hello sweatpants
If a head-to-toe tracksuit feels like a step too far, you can still make sweatpants a signature piece, as they’ll team so easily with the rest of your closet. They are competing with mom jeans to become our favorite essential for comfort; we like to create a contrast with sophisticated pieces to reveal their fashion potential.
For a sporty-chic look, we’ve opted for sweatpants in a beautiful flowing crêpe material that we’ve teamed with gold Vanessa Wu sandals with a heel. This ensemble draws attention to the finer details: the rope heel and gold straps unite with the classic tight fit on the ankle for a chic and refined look; it’s the perfect day-to-night outfit!
No offence meant to Karl Lagerfeld (R.I.P.) who once quipped that “sweatpants are a sign of defeat”, but sweatpants are well and truly back in the fashion race and that’s fine by us!
