What sandals go with surf swimwear?
This summer, we’re riding the surf swimwear trend. Whether or not you’ve got a surfboard, paddleboard or bodyboard, slip into your swimwear without a second thought, and dive into the Atlantic or the Mediterranean. Finally, swimwear that you can wear without reaching breaking point – unless of course, you’re a professional surfer!
It’s the perfect well-being and fashion companion for the summer. Designed using hi-tech fabrics like Lycra and neoprene, go for a two-piece, one-piece, or maybe both! Whether you opt for short or long sleeves depends on the level of protection you’d like and how much you want to reveal on the beach. We love it because it sculpts the body, yet hides those areas that many of us prefer to keep under wraps: ah…a little extra tummy or some stubborn cellulite on our thighs! And, with its sporty look, it makes us want to move. So, whether it’s yoga or beach volleyball, surfing or swimming, you’re free to move, whilst your skin is protected from the sun.
The major labels certainly haven’t missed the boat: Prada, Fendi and Etro have all launched surf swimwear collections. Meanwhile, lesser known brands and upcycling champions are also emerging in the swimwear arena. MYMARINI (https://mymarini.com/), the ethical German surf and swimwear brand, has created reversible surf tops made from discarded fishing nets left drifting in the sea. As for Marine Serre, the young Corrèze-born designer and winner of the LVMH Prize in Hyères, she’s teamed up with Nike to create a swimwear range inspired by the trend for recycled activewear.
However, when your feet aren’t in the water or on your paddleboard, what shoes should you wear with surf swimwear? For a break from pool shoes or flip-flops, we’d recommend these ultra-light walking sandals made of rubber, in white, or with a leopard print strap. We also love these mules with a woven strap – so chic and comfortable. Vanessa Wu’s delicate asymmetric mules also work well with surf swimwear, as do these mules with double straps and thick soles, which hug the sole of your foot as you walk on the sand. And, if it’s a little extra height you fancy to really make your mark, these espadrille wedges will give you the cool and breezy summer vibe you’ve always wanted!
