Spring/Summer 2021 Trends: what shoes are we wearing this season?
Despite the feeling we’re living in a vacuum these days, good times are on their way. Flats, pastels, comfort - let’s take a look at the shoe trends for the Spring/Summer 2021 season. It’s time to find something for everyone!
Mules and platforms: a rising trend
This summer, one thing is certain: with the return of the mule, we’ll be hot on its heels. Whether it’s flat or with platform soles, the mule, that shoe with no constraint around your heel, is making a big comeback. But this time, there’s no need to give up on comfort: in 2021, mules have been designed with stress-free walking and dancing in mind. Gone are those slippery shoes that slide off, we’re getting back to some stability again. Not convinced? We’re trying out dad shoes, sandals with soles more comfortable than a king-size bed and as practical as all-inclusive holidays. Velcro will help with grip. This summer, picking out your shoes will be child’s play.
Team retro: clogs, ballerinas, flip-flops
A reminder for this season: fashion often repeats itself. For 2021, the sorts of shoes we thought were long gone are having a comeback. Flip-flops, clogs, ballerinas: it’s all about bringing back that forgotten footwear! While ballerinas are perfect with classic or preppy looks (a buttoned shirt, jeans and a cap), flip-flops and clogs with platform soles look great with popping colors, textured materials like satin and patent leather, or even studs or flowers. Whether you’re on team hippie from the seventies, with a pair of wooden clogs and a long flowery dress, or on team pop icon from the nineties with wedge flip-flops and nylon three-quarter pants, inspiration comes from the past to help us reinvent the present.
The match: pastel vs nude
As the weather takes a turn for the better, this season’s colors start to emerge. Like a clean, fresh watercolor, pastel hues lighten the mood, like a call for calm. Sweet almond, lilac, lemon yellow or baby pink: this summer’s shoes will inject a little innocence into this crazy world. And if you don’t want to go all out and join the Austin Powers cast, there’s always the nude option: whether it’s ivory, cognac, organic gray or even moss green, we’re jumping feet first into natural shades, in tribute to the world around us.
